Our weekend in Phuket was a true vacation. Brent wanted to stay near the students he was chaperoning and found the most incredible resort just a short walk down the beach from them. We were situated overlooking the ocean in a rainforest full of the most beautiful flora and fauna imaginable.
It was raining the day we arrived, so Georgia got a hand-held, umbrella escort to our hut from the woman checking us in.
And what a hut it was!
The plant life in the rainforest was so diverse and colorful, we spent a lot of time admiring plants on our walks to and from the beach.
It was the girls’ first experience seeing bananas growing on trees in the wild.

Once the rain subsided, we checked out the beach. Because of the stormy weather, the ocean waves were ferocious and swimmers weren’t allowed in because of dangerous riptides.
We high tailed it back to our hut before the second storm hit, but it sure was fun getting acquainted with our little corner of Phuket on the first day of our visit.

Our second day started off with a hike down to the beach. The tide was high, so the beach we had walked the night before was completely submerged. Eliza and Georgia had a great time watching th huge waves come rolling in to shore.

Since the beach looked a little wicked, we headed to the resort pool. There weren’t many people swimming, so we virtually had the pool to ourselves. It was so refreshing to have time together in such a beautiful, restorative place.

After the pool we headed back to the beach and found perfect conditions for ocean fun, the waves were calmer, but still fun to play around in and the beach was full of activity…

In the evening we joined The Wash U student group for dinner at Heaven Restaurant and Bar. It offered quite an impressive ocean view and the food was delicious. I had amazing conversations with these students. They are exceptional in every way and their passion for doing good things with the education they’re receiving was inspiring. I left feeling full of hope for their future and our future with these kids leading the way.
And who could resist young people who spend over an hour talking to even younger people about their interests and experiences traveling the world?!!!!

We all had a hard time saying goodbye on our last day. We requested a late check out and tried our best to take it all in before we had to go, the smells, the colors, the sounds, the architecture. Places like this feel like they nurture your soul and we are grateful to that we got to experience it.
