Chiang Mai Flood

The day we arrived in Chiang Mai, the city was coping with flash flooding from an unexpectedly huge rainstorm.  The streets were flooded with knee-deep water, but that didn’t stop our driver from getting us to our hotel.  It was quite an exhilarating introduction to Thailand.  I’d give anything to have footage of us arriving at the hotel, awkwardly wading our way through rushing water and then looking on in disbelief as our luggage was passed along from person to person to the hotel lobby.  I did get footage of the taxi ride however:  Click here to see it!

Quite a change of pace from Switzerland, eh?  The kids might’ve been a tad skeptical of what we were getting ourselves into.  But with the promise of visiting elephants the next morning, they remained more excited than skeptical.  As for their parents who’d promised elephants the next day, we were crossing our fingers in hopes of receding flood waters and an early morning shuttle pick up to the Elephant Nature Park sanctuary.
